Testimonials
Sue Poitras, Albany:
"My two older children, ages 12 and 14, have been learning
Spanish at Las Mariposas since 2003. I was so
pleased with the progress they made that I didn't hesitate to
enroll their younger sister in 2007. The teachers at Las
Mariposas blend language instruction with cultural studies,
which results in a rich curriculum that never seems to get dull.
Las Mariposas' approach is very effective, I believe - teaching
language by including history, geography, and culture. My
kids think it's fun and interesting, and their language
retention, as well as their growing awareness and appreciation
of Latin American culture, reflects that."
Rodney Kowalczyk:
"Our daughter has been attending Spanish language classes at Las
Mariposas for almost 4 years. This experience has been a
positive one for our entire family. We believe the opportunity
to learn Spanish will help her to better understand the children
that she meets in school and in the community. It is our
hope that she gains a respect and appreciation for another
culture, one that is here in our own backyard, through learning
the language. We hope to expand the horizons and future
possibilities of both of our children, through language classes
at Las Mariposas.
The teachers at Las Mariposas are wonderful with children.
They are full of energy and ideas to keep the children
motivated. Our whole family has had the opportunity to
learn with her at home and on the road. We learn the songs that
will be performed on stage together through performances
coordinated by Las Mariposas. The teachers and staff work
together to provide the students with as much exposure to the
language and culture as possible through concerts, community
events that they participate in/sponsor, such as First Friday's
in Ballston Spa and through the projects that they work on with
the children in class - the yearly sugar skull displays in the
store in celebration of Día de los Muertos. This is a
great program!"
Krista Concha:
"My two children had been enrolled at Las Mariposas for
several months. After just a few classes, their teacher,
Srta. Gloria, began conducting the classes in Spanish.
They have been immersed and enriched each class in Spanish.
In my opinion, this was the best way to learn Spanish.
The kids are excited to attend classes and learn new phrases
each week. I am thrilled that my children are learning a
Spanish vocabulary and the proper grammar to express
themselves in sentences. My children are eager to show their
father - a native Spanish speaker - the Spanish they have
learned and he is impressed. We try to attend Spanish events
and eat at Spanish restaurants to give the children a chance
to use the Spanish they have learned. Our goal as parents to
give the children a chance to learn about another culture
while learning their language. I am very happy with the
education they are receiving at Las Mariposas Learning
Center."
Dianne Burke:
"My daughter Grace looks forward to her Chinese language and
culture class at Las Mariposas each week. She enjoys sharing
what she learns with others. An added benefit of the class
is that it has provided Grace with an opportunity to develop
friendships with other girls adopted from China. The
teacher, Suxin, is energetic and engaging. She provides the
children with a positive role model. Thank you."
Lisa Delugo, Adult Student:
"My Spanish has gotten better since taking classes at the
CRLC. Kim is a great instructor!"
Barbara, Adult Student:
"I have been taking classes in Spanish for about two and a half
years, starting as a beginner, and am now able to read,
write, speak and understand Spanish reasonably
well. Both the instructor and the materials are
excellent. The small class size ensures that each student
speaks, writes, and listens to Spanish during each session.
The informality of the classes makes them fun as well as
educational. This is the way to learn a language."
